If you don’t know, Walmart got a new logo. Being a CW, I have no design schooling, but I have dated a lot graphic designers so I feel that I can still comment on the design. (I hope that sounds as douche-y as I intended.)
No hypen or star
Good move. Especially in an internet world where such things matter. It’s hard to type Wal(star)Mart into a search engine.
Change in blue
Good move. Looks like it’s almost back to the original color. When I thought of the old blue, I did think of Walmart. The problem being I also thought of Best Buy, Lowes and plenty of other stores. They can actually own this blue.
Blue and yellow
Bad move. You couldn’t come up with a different color combo. Best Buy already owns blue and yellow. Even if it’s a different blue, people will think of Best Buy when they see blue and yellow.
Lower case and not bold
Good move. The store’s not yelling at me anymore. With the toned down blue, I no longer feel like I have to avert my eyes.
Type treatment
Eh. It’s better, but I still don’t like it. Serif will set them apart from other big box stores but I don’t like the foot on the As. And the slightly rounded W looks weird. If they just took half the bar on the T and left the rest squared off it would have been a better font.
“Star” at end
Bad move. Looks like a butthole.
Quick run through of events from where the last blog left off to this point:
Rach and I spent 2 days in the Cotswolds and stayed in a town that had a pub, our hotel (which was above the pub), a school, a post office and about 8 houses. Rach got sick (strep throat) but we still had a really relaxing time.
2 days in North Carolina for a wedding. It was hot and the wedding was outside, but it was still nice. Our flight back had a 5 hour delay which sucked.
July 4th: we had an impromptu bar-b-que at our place. I realized, once again, that I’m not that good at hosting stuff and that I know nothing about grilling (burgers were rare the first time around). But I think everyone still had a decent time.
Today is a terrible day for no reason at all. I’m going to listen to some Cure and roll around in the ugly for a bit.
The game looks easy, that’s why it sells.
